Powering Every Household: Lesotho Commits to 100% Electricity Access by 2030 Under "Mission 300" ⚡🇱🇸
In an ambitious push for economic transformation and sustainable development, the Kingdom of Lesotho is accelerating its National Energy Compact under the pan-African Mission 300 initiative—a transformative partnership led by the World Bank Group and the African Development Bank (AfDB).
With an overarching vision to power communities and bridge the energy divide by 2030, Lesotho's strategic roadmap focuses on:
• Universal Access Target: Scaling national electricity access from 53% toward 100% by 2030, deploying ~45,300 new connections each year across grid and off-grid solutions.
• Clean & Off-Grid Reach: Deploying mini-grids, rural solar home systems (SHS), and low-voltage distribution lines to illuminate remote mountainous highlands and last-mile communities.
• 100% Green Energy Mix: Expanding Lesotho’s clean generation portfolio with utility-scale solar PV, wind generation, hydro development, and battery storage.
• Mobilizing Private Capital: Unlocking private investment to catalyze sustainable jobs, support healthcare clinics, power irrigation, and fuel modern rural industry.
Access to electricity is not just power—it is education, healthcare, economic empowerment, and human dignity.
